St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner! If you are looking to add a little magic and fun into your March we have just the thing for you.
We are starting a series this month starting March 1 where we will be sharing 17 leprechaun tricks & activities to do with your kids leading up to St. Patricks’s Day. You can follow along on our Instagram page @sugarpiepaper each day to see how we set up each activity!
Here are the 17 mischievous tricks we will be playing:
1. Hide chocolate coins
Our first trick was hiding 17 green chocolate coins around the house for our kids to find. We hid them in their shoes, backpacks, car seats, bathroom drawers etc. They had so much fun searching all over the house and counting to see if they had them all. We found the cutest green chocolate coins coins with clovers and leprechauns here.
2. Create a green bath for your kids
We left a little cellophane bag with green fizzy bath tablets, gold coins, and a note saying to pour everything into their bath for a fun Irish surprise! Here's a link to the green bath supplies we used.
3. Make a rainbow snack platter
We used strawberries, mandarin oranges, bananas, kiwi, blueberries and powdered sugar donuts to create a rainbow. This can be made when your kids are at school for a fun afternoon surprise left by their leprechaun!
4. Make magic rocks with gold coins hidden inside!
How-to-make:
- Start by adding a cup of baking soda to a bowl.
- Then add a fourth a cup of water.
- Add some green food coloring (we added about eight drops) and then mix to get the desired consistency almost like the texture of snow. **We highly recommend using rubber gloves if you have some or else you'll be caught green handed
- Take a gold coin and form a ball around the coin using the mixture. This makes about 5 leprechaun rocks. **You'll want to do this the night before because they will need some drying time so they can harden
- In the morning leave a note for your kids with a jar of vinegar labeled lucky water.
- Let them pour it over the rocks and watch the magic in your kid's eyes as they reveal the leprechaun's gold inside!
All of the supplies needed for this fun trick are linked here.
5. Make leprechaun bait
6. Leave behind rainbows
Our girl’s LOVED this one last year! They thought the leprechaun hadn't come, but when we got into the car they each found a couple of rainbows on their windows + a little note from their leprechaun. This one is SO easy and can be done each year, just change the location of the rainbows - bathroom mirror, kitchen window, etc. We used wet-erase pens because the color is very vibrant and super easy to wipe away!
7. Shamrock tattoos
8. Crepe paper rainbow
9. Bathtub full of green balloons
Fill your child's bathtub with a BUNCH of green balloons and watch them be surprised when they open the shower curtain to take a bath. The more balloons the better! We recommend using an electric pump like the one linked here to save time.
10. Leave behind tiny green footprints
We found a $3 trap kit at Target's dollar spot and painted a piece of cardboard rainbow colors for the base. Then while my girl's were sleeping our leprechaun came and left behind his footprints, chocolate coins, and a printable message to let them know he was there. Supplies we used linked here.
11. Green hair
Surprise your child after a nap or in the morning with green hair! We used hair chalk while our kids were sleeping, but it works best on light colored hair. Green clip in extensions, bows, hair gems, or a silly St. Patrick's Day hat would be fun as well. All of these ideas are linked here.
12. Pack a rainbow and green lunch
Surprise your child with a St. Patrick-themed lunch. We built a rainbow out of these foods.
Red - raspberries
Orange - cantaloupe
Yellow - mango
Green - cucumbers
Blue - blueberries
Purple - blackberries
For more green-themed items, we chose veggie chips and a spinach tortilla to make a quesadilla. There are so many green and rainbow foods to choose from so have some fun with it and select ones your child will love!
You can find our favorite stainless steel lunchbox + leprechaun messages here.
13. Dye white flowers green
Surprise your child overnight by adding green dye to white flowers. Grab some carnations and while everyone is sleeping add 20-30 drops of food coloring per cup of water to the vase. In the morning swap out the green water for clear and leave a leprechaun message letting them know they played a trick on them.
14. Green twinkle lights
My girl's LOVED this one!! Our silly leprechaun tied their doors together with green twinkly fairy lights we found on Amazon.
15. Drawing green mustaches on framed photos
Grab a green dry-erase marker and draw mustaches on people in framed photos around your house. This is a super silly and easy trick!
16. Dying the milk green - coming soon on @sugarpiepaper
17. Building a trap with your kids - coming soon on @sugarpiepaper
We will post ideas on @sugarpiepaper and will be leaving behind this trap message from our leprechaun!
All of the items listed above are linked here. And be sure to follow @sugarpiepaper beginning of March to see how we set up all of these tricks!
