We recently celebrated my daughter's 8th birthday with a mermaid sleepover. This was her first sleepover so we invited just a couple of close friends, but still went all out with mermaid-themed tents, sparkly nails, a popcorn bar, and more.
Theme & Inspiration
After we decided on a birthday sleepover I started to research sleepover tent companies in my area. After scouring Instagram I found the cutest company called Cielo Sleepovers. I showed my daughter all of their themes and she immediately picked the mermaid one. I loved all the bright colors & patterns so was thrilled with her choice :)
I began preparing for the party by collecting images of decor items to go along with the tents and beachy pillows, then created a party mood board to see how everything worked together. Here's how it turned out.

Here are some photos of how the sleepover room turned out!
Food
I wanted to keep the food simple so in the spirit of the sleepover theme, I created a popcorn bar as the main focus. It was filled with various bowls of my daughter's favorite candy to top the popcorn with and the girl's decorated paper popcorn containers with mermaid stickers as an activity.
We were thinking about doing an ice cream cake but opted for something a little less expensive since we were spending a lot of money on the tent experience. We ended up ordering mermaid-themed cupcakes from our local Safeway and they turned out fantastic - and were only $11.99 for 10!
We also had mermaid-themed macarons that Cielo sleepovers brought from @sugarwheels206. The shell shapes were adorable and we had enough to not only put in the girl's favor bags but enjoy at the party as well.
As for dinner, we ordered my daughter's favorite pizza and caesar salad that they ate while watching movies (a family tradition of ours).
Activities
I wanted to make sure we had some mermaid-themed activities on hand to keep the girls entertained so I bought sparkly nail polish to do mermaid manicures with, a huge ocean-themed coloring sheet with new markers and crayons, plus mermaid face masks, and the most beautiful shimmery temporary tattoos.
A friend ended up bringing hair tinsel for a gift, so I spent a good part of the evening tying it in everyone's hair. It turned out SO cute and was easy to figure out after watching a quick YouTube video.
My daughter said this was her favorite birthday party yet, so I'm thinking it was a success! I sure had a great time and got to re-live some of my childhood sleepover memories, The absolute best!!
